Human car­diomy­ocytes

Human car­diomy­ocytes derived from iPS cells

For obvi­ous rea­sons of acces­si­bil­ity, healthy car­diac human cells are very rare and avail­able in very small quan­tity. Human car­diomy­ocytes derived from induced pluripo­tent stem cells (iPS-​hCMs) allow to access to human ventricular-​like myocytes. Due to their ori­gin these cells present func­tional and elec­tro­phys­i­o­log­i­cal char­ac­ter­is­tics of human car­diomy­ocytes. More­over, these car­diomy­ocytes offer a good alter­na­tive to ex vivo and in vivo mod­els for drug development.

2 meth­ods avail­able using man­ual patch-​clamp tech­nique:
  • Cur­rent clamp: record­ings of action potential
  • Volt­age clamp: record­ings of spe­cific cur­rents (Ik, INa, ICa)
